As everyone has heard the mouth has been open for some weeks now having been dredged initially. It is about 11-12 years since the mouth was last open. You can view the progress at the mouth on my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/fatbikefishing/

However, there is no certainty that the mouth will remain open for very long as the bed of the mouth is compacted clay deposited by the Umfolozi which is difficult for the water to scour through. We have had 300ml rain since the Eloise arrived and there is a good chance that we will have more soon. But less rain has fallen in the lake catchment so we will have to wait and see how the situation develops.

With a large volume of very muddy water discharging through the mouth the sea is discoloured right up to Vidal so there is little chance of fly fishing at the moment.
