Some hopeful/good news for the Trout Value Chain regarding the implementation of 2020 NEMBA Alien and Invasive Species Lists and Regulations. The Minister has informed FOSAF that implementation will commence on 01 March 2021. However, the two trout species will be excluded for the time being. This is to allow for the work/deliberations of the task team comprising representatives of aquaculture and departmental officials, the set up to discuss and consider various options aimed at minimising/mitigating the impact of regulating trout.
According to FOSAF’s national chairman, Ilan Lax, these discussions have been tough and detailed but hopefully a solution acceptable to all parties will eventually be found.
