The Northern Trout Association
The Mpumalanga Trout Association (MTA) was launched in August 2015. Comprising the majority of trout producers and trout fishing destinations in the province it has become a very important representative body for the trout value chain in Mpumalanga. The MTA together with FOSAF are also members of Trout South Africa which has become a vital voice-piece at government level for the industry.
Due to the success of the MTA it was proposed and accepted that membership be extended to all the northern provinces under the name of the “Northern Trout Association” (NTA). The constitution of the MTA has therefore been amended to enable this, and in fact all three KZN trout producers have now joined the new NTA association. The next step is to encourage all other bodies in the trout value chain in KZN, Gauteng, Free State and Limpopo to become members, especially those destinations offering trout fishing.
We believe many are aware of the threats draft legislation poses to the trout value chain. It is not only the attempt to list trout as “invasive”, but also the proposed draft Aquaculture Development Bill which if not amended substantially will certainly inhibit the production of trout and other freshwater fish while increasing the costs substantially.
The cost of ordinary membership for destinations and similar organisations has been reduced from R2000,00 per annum for the MTA to only R1000,00 for the new NTA for the year commencing 01/08/2019. The annual subscription has been reduced in order to build membership in the trout value as numbers count when negotiating with the State.
We trust you will agree to join the NTA from the beginning of August this year? Please respond by confirming the name of your organisation, postal and email address and we will send you an invoice for R1000,00. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.
