Fishing recently has been poor with much of the sea discoloured as there has been plenty of rain and the lake which is linked to the Umfolozi which is in flood is discharging plenty of dirty water into the sea. As regards the health of the lake what is required is for the mouth to widen to allow the seawater to push well into the estuary. This will also kill off the freshwater reeds which have clogged up much of the estuary. North and south of Vidal the reefs have been sanded up a bit which has hampered fishing. The odd shad is coming out otherwise the flyrodders need to focus on the 3 spot and threadfin with light tackle.

3 spot pompano.
